ITINERARY

 

DAY 1 ~ ARRIVE IN KOTA KINABALU

Arrive at Kota Kinabalu International Airport where you'll be met by our representative in the arrivals hall.  Transfer to hotel.

DAY 2 ~ KOTA KINABALU / SANDAKAN - MARI VILLAGE 

The Mari Cultural Village is about 25 minutes from the city.  After an unforgettable encounter with the Sabahan homeland, have lunch at a local restaurant then transfer to the airport for your flight to Sandakan.  You will be met and privately transferred to the hotel.

DAY 3 ~ SANDAKAN TOUR / SEPILOK 

Take an early breakfast at the hotel you'll transfer to Sepilok.

Transfer 30 mins from Sepilok with driver and guide to visit the Labuk Bay Proboscis Sanctuary (11:30/4:30pm) for the afternoon feeding. This is a great location to see the local proboscis troop up-close.

 

This evening you’ll enjoy a night walk. (Available Mon, Wed and Fridays only). The jungle comes alive at night and this tour is a great opportunity to explore the often-missed nocturnal animals that inhabit these lush jungles. A local guide will point out a variety of insects and wildlife that hide under the cover of darkness, and then appear literally right before your eyes! Sepilok Nature Resort (B, L, D)

DAY 4 ~ SEPILOK ORANGUTAN CENTER    

After breakfast, depart for Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre at in time for the morning feeding session, then head to the Sun Bear Conservation Centre nearby. This center aims to increase awareness of this endearing, but little-known bear species – named after the crescent shaped patch of fur on their chests that resembles the rising sun. Walk back to the hotel for lunch

 

This evening you’ll enjoy another night walk. (Available Mon, Wed and Fridays only).

 

Sepilok Nature Resort – Chalet (B, L, D)

 

DAY 5 ~ SEPILOK / ABAI    

After check out, you head to the Sepilok Orang-utan Rehabilitation Centre for another chance to witness their morning feed.  

 

This afternoon, you will travel to Sim Sim Jetty in Sandakan to make your transfer across the bay and into the mouth of the Kinabatangan River.

11:15hrs, Depart centre and transfer to Simsim jetty.

11:45hrs. depart jetty take an hour boat cruise up to the Lower Kinabatangan River Sanctuary, This is a wonderful journey of discovery which starts from the waters of Sulu Sea of Sandakan Town through a magnificent scenery of the Mangrove Forest. Check in Abai Jungle Lodge, Late in the afternoon, you'll be experiencing a cruise to search for wildlife until the sunsets while enjoying a cup of coffee and by night falls continue the night cruise to witness the fire flies as Christmas tree. Return to the lodge for dinner. After dinner, experience the “Jungle at night” at our nature boardwalk to search for birds, snakes, insects and other wildlife with our nature guide.

DAY 6 ~ SANDAKAN / PITAS OXBOW LAKE / ABAI VILLAGE / BOAT TO SUKAU / MENANGGUI  

Wake up by the calls of nature. Take an early morning cruise to Pitas Lake to see more wildlife and experience the uniqueness of Pitas Lake.

 

After breakfast, briefing of our tree planting project & “Beautiful House Competition” and lunch at Abai Village after village walk. This project is especially designed to help the locals. Return back to the lodge.

 

Cruise UP to Sukau village in search for more primates especially the Endemic Proboscis Monkeys, birds and other wildlife. Arrive Sukau, check in at Kinabatangan Riverside Lodge. Late afternoon, another river cruise to Menanggul River, a small tributary of the Kinabatangan. Return lodge for dinner.

DAY 7 ~ GOMANTONG CAVES   

Enjoy an early morning cruise to the Oxbow Lake. Return back to the lodge for breakfast.

 

Before or After Lunch, visit Gomantong Cavein the 3,924 hectare Gomantong Forest Reserve. Wild orangutans, mouse deer, wild boar and wild buffalo can sometimes be spotted here, and up to 300,000 bats, consisting of 64 differing species, are thought to live in the caves. The nest of the swiflets are collected here, for the famous Chinese delicacies, the edible bird's nest soup.

 

Return lodge. 

 

This afternoon you'll enjoy another boat cruise on another tributary river to take your chance/luck to spot more wildlife such as elephant, crocodile etc. Return lodge for dinner.

Kinabatangan Riverside Lodge – air-conditioned double (B, L, D)    

 

DAY 8 ~ SAKAU / LAHAT DATU/ DANUM VALLEY   

Transfer overland to Lahat Datu (about 2.5 hours).  Upon arrival, you will proceed to the Borneo Rainforest office for registration and briefing. Afterwards, you will be transferred to Danum Valley, an area of pristine rainforest in Sabah (about 2.5 hours).  

 

NOTE: There are limited no. of English speaking local guide in Sukau. Therefore, during the peak traveling season (July-September), airport transfer with a guide is subject to availability because most of the guide will be assigned for the tour, and we will assign an English speaking driver instead if guide is not available. 

Arrive at Borneo Rainforest Lodge and proceed to the “Canopy Walkway.”  Lunch and dinner will be provided.

 

Borneo Rainforest Lodge – Standard Double (B, L, D)

NOTE: Activities are subject to weather conditions, and may be reorganized to best meet operational situations. All tours and transfers in Borneo Rainforest Lodge are in private, except evening tours will be in share basis.

 

What to bring: Insect repellent, long sleeve shirts & long pants, raincoat, sun hat, swim wear, comfortable trekking shoes, torch light, water bottle  & personal toiletries. Leech socks are available for sale at the resort’s shop.

 

DAY 9 ~  DANUM VALLEY

Early morning guided jungle walk to the "Canopy Walkway." Trek to the "Coffin Cliff " for a bird's eye view of Borneo Rainforest Lodge; stop at the “Jacuzzi Pool” for a dip.  

 

Lunch at the Lodge.  

 

Afternoon at leisure or go “Water Tubing.”  After dinner "Night Walk" (share basis).  

 

Borneo Rainforest Lodge – Standard Double (B, L, D)

 

Day 10 ~ DANUM VALLEY / LAHAT DATU / KOTA KINABALU   

After breakfast at leisure or guided walk along the Segama Trail/Hornbill Trail.  Return to the lodge for lunch; depart Borneo Rainforest Lodge for Lahad Datu airport for your flight to Kota Kinabalu.  Arrive Kota Kinabalu, meet and transfer to the resort.

Day 11 ~ DEPART KOTA KINABALU (OR HEAD TO GAYA ISLAND)  

Today you will be privately transferred to the airport to connect to your flight home. (B)

A Late breakfast and last stroll around the City of Kota Kinabalu before heading to the Jesselton Jetty for a speed boat transfer to Gaya Island.

Day 12 ~ Beachside, at leisure

Spend the day at leisure, enjoying the beach or swimming in the clear blue waters. Take a snorkel and enjoy the marine life or simply relax by the pool.

Day 13 ~ Beachside, departure

09:00 or 11:00 Check out and Depart Palau Gaya for a 20-minute boat transfer back to Kota Kinabalu hotel/airport. (B)
