LOFOTEN WINTER ADVENTURE

ITINERARY

Day 1 ~ Arrival to Harstad

Arrival to Harstad according to your own itinerary. For your comfort, we recommend to rent a car at the arrival airport. (Please ask us for rates!)  Accomodation in Thon Hotel Harstad or similar.

Day 2 ~ Svolvær

The “capital” of the Lofoten islands, offers the atmosphere of a harbour, small town and art centre simultaneously. The town has many art galleries to visit, and we recommend the Northern Norway’s Art Centre, Gallery Dagfinn Bakke and Magic Ice, which displays ice sculptures. (Exhibitions are subject to change). You will spend the following nights at Svinøya Rorbu Centre. Svinøya is a small, vibrant fishing hamlet in Svolvær harbour and has welcomed visitors for almost 200 years. The rorbu cabins are idyllically located between the fish landing station, quayside buildings, fish racks and other traditional, local buildings. Here, you have the sea on one side, and the spectacular Lofoten Mountains on the other. Accommodation in a fishermen's cabin in Svinøya or similar (4 nights) (B)

Day 3 ~ Discover the Lofoten Islands

Breakfast at the rorbu centre. Today you will go and discover the beautiful Lofoten Archipelago during a 6 hour tour. Start in the morning when it is still pitch dark and drive into the dawn, when the special arctic twilight starts appearing. During the tour you will see the Atlantic coast, which is of an expressive power and beauty in winter, and travel to the typical fishing villages facing the Vestfjord. You return to Svinøya around 15h00 and you have the afternoon at leisure to discover Svolvær. (B)

Day 4 ~ Snow shoe hike and Time to relax

Breakfast at the rorbu centre. Then it is time to go out into Lofotens’ splendid nature. A guide will take you on a 3-hrs hike on the snow by snowshoes. Enjoy the fresh air and the impressive scenario around you. The afternoon is yours to explore Svolvær. Take a stroll through the town or visit one of the many galleries. You can also just relax in one of the cosy cafes. (B)

Day 5 ~ Nature Safari and Northern Lights*

* The nature safari only departs on specific dates with min. 6 participants. Breakfast at the rorbu centre. Spend the day discovering the nature of the Lofoten islands during a boat safari. In the morning you will get a lecture on Lofoten’s history and wildlife in Gunnar Bergs Gallery followed by a boat tour. Lunch will be served on board.  In the afternoon you can spend some relaxing time in your rorbu before you use the things you learned last night to hunt for the Northern Lights again. Go on a Northern Lights hunt by minibus. Your guide will take you a venue with as little artificial light as possible, so that nothing will shy the Auroras away. (B, L)

Day 6 ~ Last night in the ”Capital”

Start the day with an energizing breakfast and relax in your cosy rorbu. Time to say good bye to Svolvaer and Lofoten Islands. You will spend the last night in Harstad. Accomodation in Thon Hotel Harstad or similar (B)
